The Show Begins

I am more than thrilled to announce that I will be part of the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange.  This will be my first show as an independent artist.  I am very excited and very nervous about the experience but will never forget to keep enjoying what Lindenlime is...my lovely escape.

I couldn't ask for a better show to be my first.  I visited the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange last year with a friend and was blown away by the opportunity it offered.  It's not your ordinary art/craft show.  It's full of different, crazy, inventive, and possibility.  I knew I needed to take my chances and try to become a part of this community.  Wish me luck!

The INDIEana Handicraf Exchange will be on June 11th and The Harrison Center for the Arts in downtown Indianapolis.

Date:
Saturday, June 11

A lindenlime Baby Shower {baby shower ideas}

I had an amazing weekend with some of my great friends from high school.  It's great after all these years to be so close to some special people.  I was blessed with a wonderful baby shower hosted at my friend Lauren's beautiful home. Also, everyone else seamed to pitch in as well.  Anyway, we had some great food, deserts, played games, and chatted the afternoon away.

Lauren used some of my own designs to decorate the party and gave me the opportunity to learn how to improve my product. We went with an owl baby shower theme because I am decorating my nursery with owls.

These fun owl designs all started by using a photo shop brush from brusheasy.com. Although we manipulated the design a bit and turned them into vector images I still wanted to recognize where we got our inspiration.  Also, these items are not for sale.

We embellished the cupcakes with owl designed toppers, decorated the walls with owl themed banners, and assembled together a beautiful center piece with flowers and owl designs. I learned a lot about how the things I make can be utilized and also came up with more ideas along the way.

Below are some simple tips I learned about throwing a baby shower:

Banners can be hard to place.  You want everyone to see them and for them to look snazzy in possible photos.  So.. before you hang your banners try and think of a spot for your guest of honor to sit and decorate accordingly.

Utilize any natural lighting you may have.  This will help your photos to come out beautifully.  Often a flash can drown out the decor you worked so hard to assemble and put up.

Take the time to get a group snap shot.  Place a camera on a table or chair and set the timer.  These photos will be fun to look back at.  They often turn out silly because you always catch someone being funny.

One more thing.. Do something crafty with the group.  Often people don't like "baby shower games" because they can be boring or embarrassing. If you give your group the option of decorating some burp cloths or onsies not only do they enjoy the process, the mother-to-be will always remember the experience every time she uses these hand made items.

Illustration gone Illustrator

More than often I sit doodling at my desk while I am working.  Sometimes I fill an entire page full of random shapes, patterns, swirls and more.  I never know what the final product is going to look like but in the end it's very manipulating and eye catching (so some may think).  Often I scan the doodles and adjust them into Illustrator files (easier to handle).  Then I play even more with refection, images, colors and text.  I enjoy this process and love how my originality shows.  I hope to go further with these illustrations and take them to block print, screen printing, and/or fabric.  Who knows how these designs may be interpreted?  All I care about is the process and how my originality shows through each piece.

So...relax your mind and enjoy lindenlimes quirky/artistic/chaos.  Thanks for your interest and please contact me if you would like a print for yourself. lindsay@lindenlime.com or stop by the lindenlime etsy shop.  Also for more example please visit lindenlime.com
